The Journey From Crawling to Walking
One of the biggest milestones in a baby’s life is when she/he begins walking. Babies are all very different and grow at different rates, so this milestone happens at varying times for different people. In most parents’ keepsake boxes, there is a powerful symbol of this milestone – their baby’s first pair of shoes – many personalized with their baby’s name and date of birth.
You’ve Gotta Crawl – Or Not?
You’ve gotta crawl before you walk, right? That’s how the saying goes, anyway. Actually, many experts say that you don’t have to crawl before you walk, and babies all over the world corroborate this supposition. It’s true, a large percentage of babies begin showing signs of crawling between 7-10 months. They begin crawling by supporting their body weight on their hands and knees, and then gradually move by alternating their left hand with their right knee, and then their left knee with their right hand.
Some babies, however, never get the urge to crawl. Some get around by scooting on their behinds or inching on their bellies until they are ready to make the big journey to walking around upright.
One Small Step For Baby
Your baby’s first steps are miraculous and many parents report a sense of euphoria watching their child take to their feet. It’s quite probable that your baby has been standing upright and experimenting with bouncing their legs up and down to develop balance and leg muscle for weeks. But the first steps can quite literally take your breath away.
Teary-eyed parents wax nostalgic about these first steps with good reason – their baby is growing up. By keeping their baby’s first pair of shoes –personalized with their name and date of birth – parents can look back on a time when tremendous growth brought them closer together and the journey of their child’s life began with one step.
